Could it have been used as a military base/hospital during the wars????
You will be pleased to know after doing some research on military hospitals during the great war that ridware was not used as a vd hospital!!! Having looked at all hospitals in Staffordshire during both wars ridware was not requisitioned for this purpose. I’ll keep looking kxx
Thanks, Kate! I’m not sure whether to be relieved or disappointed!!
Do I get a prize? It was a WAEC (War Agricultural Executive Committee) hostel in the 1940’s
Hi Dan
I understand from local knowledge that it was initially a centre for conscientious objectors and the later used for Italian POW’s who worked the local farms during the war – There are two walnut trees in the part of the walled garden now owned be the neigbours – The tell me that these were planted by the POWs
Wow – that’s great! How did you find out?
